Happy Summer!

It's promising to be a warm and sunny Sunday -- no better reason to head to Toronto's Evergreen Brick Works for the day. Their Sunday Farmers' Market is well worth a visit, but even more importantly (I think so anyway), the Brick Works are yet again host to a selection of over 30 local artisans this Sunday. Whether you'd like to treat yourself to a new pair of earrings, get a gift for your best friend's new baby, stock up on handmade soaps, buy a greeting card for your cousin's wedding, or pick up a ukulele to complete the Hawaiian summer feeling: the Etsy Marketplace will have something for you!

Here are the details:

When: Sunday, August 7, 10am - 3pm

Where: Evergreen Brick Works, North Pavilions (Farmers Market), 550 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON M4W 3X8

Have you seen my new cards yet?

Much like last year, Paper Turns will be present at the Brick Works with a big table full of greeting cards for all sorts of occasions: birthdays, weddings & engagements, birth, sympathy... I will also have a big selection of blank cards, which include some customer favourites such as the cherry blossom, dragon fly, signature crane and fish cards. If you have been following me on Instagram, Facebook or Etsy, you will also know that pandas and sunflowers have been added to my line of blank cards. I will have a bunch of each for sale at my table  Are you a Pokémon Go player or know someone who is? Then you might want to come to the Brick Works not just to go on the hunt for Pikachu  & Co. but also to get your hands on my new Pokémon Origami Heart cards. I'm sure you know someone who is "a real catch" and deserving of this cute card. Of course, I will also have lots of card sets again. I know you'll want to add them to your own stationery stash, but they also make lovely gifts... just sayin'! Finally, as always: plenty of origami magnets for your fridge and notice boards.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday! Stop by my table and say hi. :)

Great Turnout for Paper Turns at the Artisans' Market @SickKids Hospital

The Paper Turns table at the Artisans' Market @SickKids, Toronto

Paper Turns cards were a big hit for Mother's Day shoppers. The Mother's Day card range sold out within the first 90 minutes!

Large black card (Art. No.: 17OR-SL-BLA-15051) and navy card (Art. No.: 17OR-SL-NAV-15051)

The large square cards in black and navy, featuring a small bouquet of origami flowers in varying shades of pink were the first to fly off the shelf. The A6 cards in green, lilac and navy were gone shortly afterwards.

Mint green card (Art. No.: 17OR-A6-MIN-15051) and lilac card (Art. No.: 17OR-A6-LIL-15051)

Navy/lilac card (Art. No.: 17OR-A6-NAV-15051) and navy/yellow card (Art. No.: 17OR-A6-NAV-15052)

Once the Mother's Day cards were gone, many shoppers requested the immensely versatile large blank linen cards in different colours to be customised on site for Mother's Day. The large linen cards were popular with those who shopped for wedding cards as well. I had my gold pen handy, and thus the cards could easily be adorned with a "Happy Mother's Day" wish, or a "Congratulations, [name of bride] & [name of groom]".

Another big hit were the funky new owl card sets. They sold out after a few hours as well. Each set features three little cards in bright green, each with a cool-looking owl sitting on a branch and sporting shades. The owls in each set are red (with yellow shades), orange (with teal shades), and yellow (with pink shades).

A little boy who had just come from a medical procedure was wowed by the origami birds on my cards, and when I asked him to pick a bird shape, and to choose a colour from my big pile of mini origami sheets, I folded a little crane for him on the spot, which pleased him and his mom immensely. Get well soon, little boy!

Here are some close-up impressions of my table:

It was lovely to meet and chat with the many visitors to the Artisans' Market, and to introduce a new range of people to the Paper Turns brand. I certainly had a great time and am already looking forward to my next craft show. Stay tuned!

New blank cards: Origami leaves and dolphins

Before I begin introducing other styles from my inaugural collection, such as cards with 3D motifs or paper cuts, let me quickly show you my two most recent origami creations: leaves and dolphins. Both of these cards feature beautiful textured card stock from Japan.

Blank leaf card

Article No.: 00JO-A6-WOO-14101

Are you looking for a blank card that suits the fall season? Are you tired of flowers, puppies, drinks, beaches and the likes on cards and would prefer something more autumnal, but no less bright and elegant? Look no further. This handmade blank card combines an origami leaf with a variety of beautiful Japanese papers in fall colours and with different textures.
  • Textured Japanese card stock in wood brown.
  • The collage consists of vertical paper stripes in crinkled gold paper (long) and brown washi paper (short), three diagonal stripes in latte-coloured linen card stock, one uneven broad stripe of brown Japanese tissue paper, and an origami leaf, hand-folded from dark red origami paper with an attached stem made of dark brown paper. The leaf is only glued in the centre in order to create a 3D effect.
  • The size of the card is 10.7cm x 15.7 cm (4 1/4" x 6 1/4").
  • Blank inside. The card contains a loosely inserted sheet of watermarked Japanese lining paper.
  • A matching light reddish-brown envelope with shimmery speckles is included.

Blank dolphin card

Article No.: 00JO-A6-SEA-14101

This handmade blank card combines a variety of elegant Japanese papers in nautical colours and features a shimmery origami dolphin. It is suitable for many different purposes. You could send "happy birthday" wishes to a dolphin or sea lover. Or instead of the usual "Good luck!" why not wish your recipient that something may go swimmingly!? Send it to a friend who loves Japan, but hates the dolphin hunt. Or use the card in true Douglas Adams fashion to say "So long" and/or "thanks (for all the fish)"!
  • Textured Japanese card stock in sea blue.
  • The collage consists of two vertical paper stripes in blue and shimmery light turquoise, a horizontal stripe in white (finely printed Japanese tissue), chiyogami (precious Japanese silk-screened paper) in a navy blue and white wave pattern, and an origami dolphin hand-folded from shimmery blue ungeishi paper.
  • The size of the card is 10.7cm x 15.7 cm (4 1/4" x 6 1/4").
  • Blank inside. The card contains a loosely inserted sheet of watermarked Japanese lining paper.
  • A matching light blue envelope is included.

Set of THREE blank dolphin cards

Article No.: 00SE-A6-SEA-14101
You can buy my blank dolphin cards also in a set of three -- at a discounted price!

Please note that no cards are exactly the same, as each card is made by hand and features a different cut from a full sheet of chiyogami. That is, you will receive three unique cards in this set. The different components of the design are, however, arranged in the same way on every card.

The full set is held together by a thin printed card-stock wrapper.
